C., FRIDAY FEBRUARY 90 Tow RED CROSS DINNER Over 60 workers attended the dinner at Oak Hall Wednesday, to initiate the 1952 Fund Drive of the American Red Cross in (CVk County. Henry Hart, chair ^^6n of the local chapter, intro duced Mr. and Mrs. Ben White, co-chairmen of the Drive. Mr. White welcomed the workers and after a few preliminary instruc tions introduced Mrs. Paul Culber son, executive secretary of the chapter. Mrs. Culberson told of the many activities of the local Red Cross in 1951. In 5 visits to Polk County the Bloodmobile has collected 609 pints of blood,- part of which has been used in civilian hospitals and part shipped to Korea. 99 pints have been adminis tered in our own St.. Luke’s Hos pital. The Asheville Blood Cen ter has shipped out 49 pints with out charge as always, for the use of Polk County residents in Spar tanburg General Hospital, the tist Hospital of Winston-Sal Duke University Hospital and ry Black Hospital in Spartan burg. M r s. Culberson aerain stressed the fact that any resident of Polk County can obtain free Red Cross blood in any part of the United States, on request. The various aids to service men and veterans under Home Service and "Production and Supply were out Mnod, as well as classes available in home nursing and first aid. and the work of the Junior Red Cross. Mrs. Norme Frost next talked of her years of service with the Red Cross in Africa, where she worked in hospitals, with the Clubmobile Unit, and in Red Cross Clubs.
